Leonard Cohen was a Canadian singer, songwriter, musician, poet, author, and painter who lived from September 21, 1934, to November 7, 2016. His best-known piece, “Hallelujah,” which is mostly about religion, politics, and interpersonal relationships, illustrates this.
In the 1950s and the early 1960s, Cohen sought a career as a poet and novelist. He didn’t start his music career until 1967. Three more folk albums by Leonard Cohen—Songs of Leonard Cohen (1967), Songs from a Room (1969), Songs of Love and Hate (1971), and New Skin for the Old Ceremony (1973)—were released after his debut (1974). Phil Spector co-wrote and produced Cohen’s 1977 album Death of a Ladies’ Man, which marked a departure from his earlier austere style.
